Spherical geneva mechanism translates continuous rotation into intermittent rotary motion. Our design has four slots. Spherical geneva mechanism has good performance and low cost. It is one of the types of geneva mechanism. Others are internal and external geneva mechanism. For external geneva mechanism, the dwell period always exceeds the motion period. For internal geneva, the motion period always exceeds the dwell period. For spherical geneva, the dwell period equals the motion period and equal the time required for exactly 180 degrees of input.
Mechanism is used in watches, movie projector and assembly line. In production, we used polyethylene and plexiglas. Polyethylene was cut in CNC. In addition, we used 12 volt maximum 150 rpm motor.
The electrical engine gives the motion to the wheel and thanks to pin on it, it advances the mechanism one step which means 90 degrees in our case four slot geneva mechanism. And the blockage at the back of the driver wheel provides the mechanism to stand still between the steps.
