Drug Design

The course consists of two parts. In the first part, a web based review of drug design will be made. Some of the subjects to be covered are: Effects of nonsteroidal anti inflammatory drugs. Case study: Aspirin. The Renin-Angiotensin System and drugs used for diseases of this system. Drug binding thermodynamics. Enzyme inhibition. Dopamine transporters. Ion channels and drugs used in blocking the channels. Gaba receptor and pain. Peptides as drugs. In the second part, each student will design a drug for a given pathway or disease, using the tools of drug design that we will learn in class.
